The Senate approved the PEC for public safety in two rounds, this Tuesday (3), with 73 votes in favor in the first vote and 75 in the second vote, without opposition. The text provides for the creation of the Unified Public Security System (SUSP), expands the integration between federal, state and municipal governments and establishes stricter measures against criminal organizations. Lowering the age of criminal responsibility was left out of the text after an agreement between government officials and the opposition to discuss the issue separately. The proposal is now awaiting publication by the National Congress to take effect and is considered one of the main priorities of the Lula government.
