🔻Hungary has begun to publish on the Internet the complete archive of the security documents of the country's government during the communist period. Doing so could reveal the identities of the people who informed their neighbors, colleagues, friends and even family members during the four decades of government repression until 1989.

The names and parts of the files of 50,000 to 60,000 people accused of collaborating with the former government's secret police are being published.

For some of them, this is the opportunity they have been waiting for for a long time to ask for answers and explanations about the events that happened to them during the former communist regime, from arrest and investigation to their dismissal and suspension from work. But for others, the documents may reveal painful secrets that have been hidden for decades.
