President Miley on the issue of the Falklands and Great Britain during the Ibero-American summit today: "On the international stage, we will initiate arbitration against the United Kingdom under Annex VII of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, regarding the exploitation of hydrocarbons in the southwest Atlantic Ocean. We have asked the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, among other interim measures, to prevent the commencement or continuation of exploitation of the Sea Lion Project in the North Falkland Basin. These decisions respond to the permanent and unyielding objective of restoring the full exercise of our sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, the South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas. We are pursuing this through peaceful means and in accordance with international law."
