A traditional sticky for a Sunday night.
This time, Max Miller decided to analyze the diet of medieval hermits.
Unlike ordinary monks who lived in monasteries, the monks voluntarily isolated themselves from society and kept to a very modest diet.
Their food may have been limited to barley bread, legumes, wild herbs and roots, as abstinence from pleasures, including tasty food, was considered part of religious asceticism.
Miller recreates an English dish of beans, onions and garlic from a recipe from around 1390 from The Form of Curry, a cookbook edited in the court of King Richard II.
At the same time, he talks about the daily life of these medieval hermits.
