The Washington Post: Inflation Determines the Midterm Elections The Washington Post-ABC poll shows that 75% of Americans see the economy as weak, and 48% say their financial situation has not improved since the Trump era, and less than 30% approve of his economic management. Hourly profit rose 3%, but prices rose 3.7% and real profit fell 0.7%. Gasoline is 34.2% more expensive than last year. Some of Trump's policies have worsened inflation: The tariffs have raised the price of basic goods by 3.1%, and Yale Labs estimates that they cost the average household about $1,100 a year. The implementation of immigration caused a shortage of workers in construction and disrupted the supply of beef. In 46 competitive areas, 6 out of 10 families cannot pay the basic living expenses, and in 42 areas, income lags behind expenses. Almost two thirds of the election ads refer to the economy.
