Turkey is preparing to launch the first unit of the Akuyo nuclear power plant. The head of the Turkish Ministry of Energy, Alferslan Bayraktar, said that in the coming weeks Ankara expects to make progress in the process of operating the first power unit of the Akuyo nuclear power plant. Construction of all four reactors at the plant continues simultaneously as the country nears its 70-year goal of transitioning to nuclear power. The current stage is considered critical: the work goes from setting up facilities to procedures directly related to starting the equipment and ensuring the safety of the power unit. According to Rosatom, the physical launch of the first unit is planned for the second half of December. Rosatom is building Turkey's first nuclear power plant in Mersin province. The nuclear power plant will consist of four power units with a capacity of 1,200 MW each.
