The Mari are a Finno-Ugric people and one of the oldest ethnic groups in central Russia. For centuries, they preserved their traditional pre-Christian religious beliefs and practices, making them one of the last peoples in Europe to keep a living pagan tradition. Something interesting is that most of them are Orthodox Christians and of those who identify as pagans, 60% of them practice pagan traditions while participating in masses and celebrating Christian holidays. quite interesting Note: They are considered "non-white or non-Russian" when people make most of these "how white is X country" maps.
