The subject of the Russian gas pipelines to Iran and the Rasht-Estrabad railway line was at the center of the discussions in the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Mohsen Razai. After a meeting with the Russian leader in the Kremlin, Mohsen Razai, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said that the parties discussed building gas pipelines from Russia to Iran, both to solve Iran's own problems with gas shortages and to sell Russian gas to neighboring countries. Rezaei also said that Iran's Supreme National Security Council approved the Rasht-Estrabad corridor project, and that the Iranian Minister of Transportation will soon sign and implement the corresponding contract. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Nikitin said that a package of documents was signed in Tehran on the Rasht-Estrabad railway line, including a protocol giving Russian engineers access to plots of land along the entire route to carry out surveys. This line will connect the Russian and Iranian rail network into one system and open a smooth route to the Persian Gulf and South Asia. The 162-kilometer long line, funded by Russia to the extent of approximately 1.6 billion euros as part of a 2023 deal, is the missing link in the international North-South transportation corridor, which connects Russia to the Indian Ocean via Iran and bypasses routes controlled by the West.
