What will happen if the US-Iran war resumes? Experts explain.

The escalation between Washington and Tehran may widen, as understandings on nuclear, missile and regional influence remain deadlocked, experts told Sputnik Africa, referring to the possible consequences of renewed conflict in the Middle East.

Diplomatic impasse: The talk in Washington about resuming strikes on Iran underscores the ongoing failure to reach an understanding, said Saudi security expert Abdullah al-Shaya.

Gulf states on alert: The US has warned the Gulf states to prepare for a potential short and intense military campaign after the midterm elections, backed by an increased deployment of Patriot systems, noted Egyptian expert Colonel Hatem Saber.

Dual strategy: While military preparations are accelerating, intensive diplomatic mediation led by Qatar and other regional players is underway to avoid a wider conflict, Saber added.

According to media reports, the US is currently considering three options regarding the Middle East war: resuming military strikes, maintaining economic pressure, or pursuing a diplomatic agreement.

President Trump said earlier that he would prefer to avoid further destruction of Iran.
