Geomagnetic disturbances, which began with the impact of a coronal hole in the Sun, unexpectedly grew to the level of a magnetic storm, reported the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Institute of Space Research (AD) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. "To say the least, unexpectedly less than an hour ago, a G2 level planetary magnetic storm started," the message on the laboratory's Telegram channel reads. Geomagnetic disturbances caused aurora maximum level over Russia, scientists added. As the lab previously reported, Earth was caught in a stream of plasma from a coronal hole on the Sun on Saturday, but the disturbance in the geomagnetic field turned out to be weaker, and scientists assumed that the geomagnetic disturbances would not grow to the level of storms.
