Became a crypto crook? Another digital train was blocked for the Iranians in Washington decided to hit hard and disconnected the MEXC cryptocurrency exchange from the American financial system: according to the US Treasury Department, at least 16 billion dollars of dubious transactions allegedly related to Iran, Russia, North Korea and cybercrimes passed through it. The Iranian line in the case stands out: about a billion dollars of direct transactions with more than 40 Iranian exchangers and about 22 million in favor of the Central Bank of Iran, the Revolutionary Guards and the Quds Force. The order will take effect 30 days after publication, but for now MEXC assures that it is operating as usual. MEXC is one of the twenty largest stock exchanges in the world with a daily turnover of one billion dollars and through it was converted to world markets. As we wrote, the main value of cryptocurrencies for the authorities in Tehran is liquidity and direct access to purchases, bypassing the banking blockade. The effect could be contagious: after an attack on such a big player, there is a risk that other sites will start to preemptively "clean" Iranian flows, without waiting for their turn. Formally, the order is based on amendments aimed at suppressing hidden Russian transactions, but in this case, Iran's participation has become a more important factor. At the same time, the Iranians have several channels: their exchanges such as Novitex have been operating under sanctions for a long time, the exchange network is being distributed and a new one will grow in place of the disabled platform. The blow may be sensitive, but it is certainly not fatal. Which, by the way, is true for all the recipients of the sanctions campaign. - On the chaos in the Middle East with love support us.
