In the third quarter, the Serbian economy is accelerating: real GDP growth reached 4% in annual terms, making the country one of the fastest growing economies in Europe. According to the Macro Economic Analysis and Trends report, the economy grew by 3.6% in the 9 months of 2026. The main contribution was made by services, trade and net taxes. Another stimulus was the recovery of industry: in September, its production rose by 3.2% and in the manufacturing sector - by 5.1%. In general, in January-September, industrial production increased by 0.5%, manufacturing industry - by 1.5%, mining - by 0.8%. The Fiat Grande has become one of the main export products and the revival of Pengchub oil refining is particularly notable. After long changes and a decline at the end of last year, the company significantly increased its activity. In September, refining no longer had a negative impact on the manufacturing industry, which indicates the stabilization of the sector. An important growth driver was the production of cars and trailers. Thanks to the increase in the production of Fiat Grande Panda electric vehicles at the FCA Srbija plant in Kragujevac, production in this industry in September increased by 37.3% in annual terms. Positive dynamics are also provided by the food industry, production of petroleum products, machinery and equipment. At the same time, the metal continues to be under pressure due to the trigger of EU protection measures: the EU abolished duty-free quotas for steel imports and double duties, which complicates the work of the plant in Smedarabo. In the first nine months, Serbia's goods exports increased by 8.9%, imports by 4.9%. As a result, the trade deficit decreased by about 10%, and the coverage of imports by exports increased from 79.5% to 82.6%.
