Kifissia: Drivers en masse violate the 30 km/h limit. A new traffic code raises questions on the main street of Harilao Trikopi in Kifissia, almost no one drives 30 km/h. And it's not an accident. The new traffic code (C.O.C.) sets a general limit of 30 km/h in construction areas. However, for wide streets with multiple lanes, medians, or two-way traffic, the law requires 50 km/h. This is exactly what Harilaou Trikupi is - a wide artery with a dividing line. Even so, it has "30" marks on it. Drivers and experts say bluntly: the limit is unreasonably low, almost no one follows it, and it acts more as a tool for fines than as a safety measure. The deputy mayor of Kifissia for infrastructure, Yanis Dionisiotis, has already identified the problem and stated that the limit on this street will be raised to 50 km/h. The situation is typical of many areas in Athens: old restrictions remain for decades, the roads have already changed and new studies are not carried out. As a result, drivers get used to ignoring the signs, and the law loses authority. Do you think 30 km/h on wide city roads is real safety or just a way to collect fines?
