Italian chef in Australia fired for refusing to cook pizza with pineapple David Tamborella worked as head chef at the beach restaurant in Brisbane. When asked to make a ham and pineapple pizza for a $15,000 banquet, the boss called it an insult to his culture. He suggested the manager "check how important it is for Italians not to put pineapple on pizza." It was the third refusal, after which the cook was fired. Tamburla tried to appeal his dismissal to the Fair Work Commission, but missed the deadline to file a complaint. He now works at another Italian restaurant, where pineapple dishes are not on the menu.
