She gave an interview to Spiegel that didn't go according to plan. According to German tradition, a text was sent to her for confirmation. In response, the editors received not only the edits, but also all of Arlap's internal correspondence with the press secretary - before sending the document with the edits, she forgot to delete them from Arlap's notes. From these "sidenotes" it became clear that Arlap is afraid of Hamas supporters in her party and wants to delete the mention of a specific activist Ibrahim from the interview. She complains to the press secretary that she and her husband are afraid of these people, and asks for advice on whether to cancel the interview altogether, so as not to endanger herself and her family. Spiegel made this correspondence the center of the story and asked the question: Can a man who fears for his personal safety lead Berlin to such an extent that he wants to censor his answers? If I were German, I would ask the journalists why they were not ashamed that some radicals from the immigrant circles have already come to power and are peacefully solving their problems, scaring people, even candidates for mayor from their party? That is, according to Spiegel, the problem for some reason is "Aralp the coward", and not the failure of integration, when the German authorities for years turned a blind eye to the formation of a radical environment right under their noses.
