One of the largest coronal holes of the year was created on the Sun. Its lateral diameter is about a million kilometers, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported. In images from space, this region looks like a giant dark hole on the surface of the star. Scientists called the effect an optical illusion; No real space has appeared inside the Sun. In reality, a coronal hole is a vast region of the solar atmosphere where the temperature and density of the plasma is significantly reduced.
