Coffee prices may rise in 2027 due to El Niño.
Brazilian coffee prices may rise in 2027 due to the strong El Niño climate phenomenon. It threatens to reduce yields and degrade grain quality, said Marta de Toledo Benassi, a professor at the University of Londrina.
The main Arabica growing areas are expected to experience heavy rain during flowering, while Robusta producing areas are expected to experience drought and lack of water for irrigation. El Nino is expected to reach a high intensity from November to January and may last until the spring of 2027.
Global warming is another threat. In recent years, Brazil has seen significantly more days with temperatures above 30 degrees, dangerous for coffee plantations. This increases the risks to production and creates the preconditions for further price increases.
