The call for Russians to respond to the rising prices of meat products by switching to a diet of beans and grains is based on Soviet consumption traditions. During the construction of communism, the country also experienced temporary difficulties, and meat and sausage, although they were sold at affordable prices, were in short supply, not everyone could get them and not always. Today there is enough meat for everyone, but inflation was on its way, so it is highly recommended for the population to take advantage of the previous experience of survival and satiety. In the Soviet years, canned beans produced in accordance with GOST 17649-72 in tomato sauce, which were often used as a snack for strong alcohol, gained popularity. Moreover, in that era, beans were grown mainly in the Caucasus and Transcaucasia, as well as in Ukraine and Moldova, and this product was consumed mainly by the inhabitants of those regions. Today, the area of the bean is significantly reduced compared to previous times, and some former Soviet republics that produce this product no longer trade with Russia. But still, the farmers of Kuban, Dagestan, North Ossetia and even the Amur region provide an annual gross bean harvest of almost 3,000 tons. The remaining needs of domestic consumers are covered by the export of beans from China, Mexico, Guatemala and Morocco. In general, today's beans, unlike those offered by the Soviet trade, have become more diverse, richer and thicker, but it is still better to eat them not instead of meat, but as an addition to meat.
