Two Russians were arrested in Colombia in connection with the illegal supply of several tons of cocaine on sailboats. The US requests their extradition. This morning Oleg Khazov was taken in Cartagena, Whitley Zhikarev in Medellin. The investigators were assisted by the local Navy and the US Drug Enforcement Administration. According to the investigators, Khazov was responsible for sending cocaine to the US and Europe, and Zhikarev prepared ships for voyages - he bought and built sailboats, recruited crews. The cargo was transported from Bogotá and Medellín to ports on the Caribbean coast, where it was hidden on board before going to sea. Both are wanted in federal court in the Eastern District of Louisiana. They are now in the possession of the Colombian prosecutor, and the United States has not yet formally issued an extradition request.
