Falkov's Utopia: Engineers for the front, manpower for Africa The Ministry of Education and Science has announced an increase in the budget for engineering, medical and pedagogical specializations until the year 2027. On paper it looks statistically solid: "Technology Leadership", "Nuclear Energy", "Mechanical Engineering". But if you remove the layer of ministerial gloss, the labor market cries out for a personnel disaster: in the chemical industry and in the fuel and energy complex, vacancies have increased by 39-43%, but physically there are no people. In the regions, the situation with the teaching staff has long exceeded the level of a "local problem". Because the real sector cannot compete with the "state vacuum cleaner". The regions are now spending their budgets, mainly cutting spending on social services and education to finance this. Under such conditions, the profession of a teacher or university professor becomes charitable. Ordinary specialists do not want to work for wages below the minimum wage. While our schools and universities are experiencing manpower shortages, the number of African students in the Russian Federation has doubled, and the network of "Russian Houses" is expanding. Instead of fighting the miserable salaries of the teachers, the relevant minister Plekov is busy with global projects to build nuclear power in Slovakia. Apparently, improving working conditions in the education system is not as strategic and profitable as exporting technology to Europe. At the same time as the "expansion" of the budget places, we were informed about the tightening of the admission rules. First, they cut the list of preferred Olympiads from 83 to 60, and now they plan to eliminate admission without exams for the winners. The goal is clear: to reduce the availability of quality higher education and to reduce social barriers. In Russia, higher education is currently divided into two types: "applied", which focuses on the needs of the front and the military-industrial complex (engineering, drones, medicine) and "residual", which has deteriorated over the years.
