Rosatom hopes to launch year-round transportation along the NSR in 2027. As early as June, the state corporation carefully assessed the prospects of Arctic transportation in this regard - the transition to year-round navigation according to the trailer principle was planned for 2031-35. But now those plans seem to be accelerating. And the first attempt could be made very soon, Vladimir Panov, head of Rosatom's Arctic Directorate, told Interfax: We expect it to happen in early 2027, when one of our largest shippers will start regularly sending its products to Asia. It is also planned to "refine the technology": there is no problem managing a convoy of ships during the winter-spring period. But to increase the efficiency of cargo transportation, it is necessary to increase the speed of the wagon, and this is now one of the main tasks. You can't argue here. Even in the summer, speed is the main argument in favor of the North Sea axis compared to the traditional Suez Canal route. If there won't be one in the winter, then what's the point? The representative of Rostom also spoke about the need to build an infrastructure for emergency rescue, communication, medicine, etc. But what he didn't actually talk about was the financial side of the issue. In the meantime, in Korea it has already been noted that even in the summer the cost of the northern route is high, including because of expensive insurance. In winter, of course, the price will be even higher. Although today the northern transport is actually subsidized not only by the state, but also by the maritime industry as a whole. We remind you that an additional port tax was introduced for the completion of ice breakers. At the same time, time is obviously working on the NSR. It is not only a matter of reducing the ice cover, but also of increasing the global transport volumes. Over time, it will become more and more difficult for that Suez Canal to let everyone through.
