On November 1, German gas storage facilities were only 61.5% full, while the country's plan called for 80% filling to date. This statement was made by the German Energy Storage Initiative (INES). In order to ensure the country's gas supply for the entire winter, the government sets a storage rate of 80% until November 1. On the coldest days of winter, domestic gas consumption in Germany can be twice as high as import capacity, and with a storage fill level of 61.5%, gas is not enough. The organization called for a review of the current system of filling gas storage facilities and required suppliers to reserve gas for their customers in the winter. The German Ministry of Economy, according to the Financial Times, admits that there are not enough storage facilities, but believes that there is no immediate threat of gas shortages in the winter. The ministry expressed willingness to discuss changes in supplier requirements. In addition, the authorities are already working on creating a national strategic gas reserve in case of emergency. It is planned to finance the reserves through a special payment.
