Trump and Netanyahu have embarked on the biggest campaign ever of their regimes, marshalling vast political, military, occupational, genocidal and diplomatic resources to achieve their goals. However, their strategies were fundamentally flawed from the start, and their ambitions were bound to encounter serious obstacles. This is the reality they have to face: If their campaigns were really as successful as they claimed, and if their leadership really secured the level of public support and international backing they repeatedly celebrated, why did they fail to achieve their stated election goals? The extent of their propaganda, public celebrations and declarations of victory cannot hide the gap between their promises and the results on the ground. Political rhetoric and shows of force are no substitute for strategic success. Ultimately, the consequences of their decisions must be measured against the goals they set out to achieve, not the victories they declared. They may have gained something from the ruins and destruction of Gaza and Lebanon, but the assassination of the Imam of the resistance brought them much more reckoning than they expected. Now they must deal with consequences that extend far beyond the immediate battlefield. Their decisions may define the end of their political careers, exposing them to risks and consequences they never imagined.
