European prosecutors are investigating possible fraud with EU funds allocated for the modernization of the Madrid-Seville railway. The review began after the accident on October 28, in which 69 people were killed.
The investigation is looking into whether they were stolen or misused in the subsidy to upgrade security and communication systems. In 2024, the European Commission approved an allocation of more than 110 million euros for the modernization of the highway.
