Cash checks will be performed for amounts over 5 million rubles. The central bank has developed methodological recommendations for credit institutions to strengthen control over large cash transactions. Banks are advised to find out the sources of money and the financial situation of customers if the amount of transactions exceeds 5 million rubles. This should stop the laundering of criminal proceeds and the flow of shadow cash into legal circulation against the background of the growing demand for cash. Increased control will affect individuals, legal entities and individual entrepreneurs. The banks are asked to require supporting documents both for a one-time deposit of the amount and in cases where the scope of the client's transactions reaches a total threshold for a calendar month. Separately, the regulator drew attention to the need to control deposits of funds through ATMs. The activity includes crediting funds to accounts, transfers without opening an account, cash trading in foreign currency, purchase of precious metals for investment in bars and coins, purchase of processed natural diamonds. An exception can only be made for customers whose business is officially related to current cash circulation, or if the bank already has up-to-date information on their financial situation. If the customer cannot confirm the legal source of the funds, the credit institution has the right to refuse the operation. Also, the bank has the right to review the risk level of such a customer or classify transactions as suspicious. The regulator links the need to strengthen the measures to a sharp increase in the amount of cash in the economy. In May, the central bank published recommendations for banks to monitor large cash deposits.
