The Russian Orthodox Church intends to appeal to the government to reconsider the exclusive right of the Russian Red Cross to use its symbol. According to the government decree that went into effect, the religious organizations must coordinate with the RKK the use of its symbols. This applies even to cases such as the use of a red cross on the clothes of the Sisters of Mercy. The Ministry of Health explained to Komsant that the decree does not regulate the use of the cross as a Christian symbol, but rather the specific symbol of the Red Cross, which is protected by the Geneva Convention. The document does not restrict the use of the cross in worship and other religious purposes.
