China has confirmed talks with the US and Russia regarding a possible first trilateral meeting between Xi Jinping, Donald Trump and Putin. It could take place at the APEC summit in Shenzhen in two weeks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said, Bloomberg reports. According to her, Beijing is in talks with Washington and Moscow regarding a possible meeting of the leaders of the three nuclear powers. Trump and Putin have already publicly stated that they are interested in meeting with Xi. Bloomberg writes that such a meeting could help Putin get out of international isolation after the invasion of Ukraine, and Xi Jinping - to act as a mediator between him and Trump. There are no modern precedents for such a meeting. The closest historical parallel is the Yalta Conference in 1945, where Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin, US President Franklin Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill discussed the postwar structure of Europe.
