The 72nd Russian expedition left St. Petersburg for Antarctica.

The scientific expedition ship Akademik Fedorov, the flagship of the Polar Fleet, left St. Petersburg for Antarctica with members of the seasonal and winter crew of the 72nd Russian Antarctic Expedition, the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute reported. The ship will provide the continent with everything needed to operate Russian stations: fuel, food, equipment and construction materials.

Our task is not only to carry out research in the field, but to implement a large-scale scientific program using the most modern technologies. This year we expect to implement a very ambitious project in the area of the Vostok station and obtain unique data that will shed light on global climate changes and processes occurring on Earth.

- said the director of AARI, Alexander Makarov.
