The US Treasury has asked Iraq to close all but two border crossings with Iran as part of Washington's policy to increase economic pressure on Tehran, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein said in an interview with Al Jazeera, according to Reuters.
Hussein said that closing all the crossings would be difficult and would affect the Iraqi economy, and that discussions with Washington were ongoing. Last month, Iraq closed the Shiv border crossing with Iran to check security and install detection equipment to stop smuggling.
