A gem-quality blue diamond has been mined in Russia for the first time.
A type IIb diamond is one of the rarest and most expensive on earth. The color is due to the presence of boron, and the crystal is extremely pure because it has no internal inclusions.
"Perhaps such a finding will never be repeated. The greater our responsibility is to preserve the beauty created by nature and turn this extraordinary diamond into a diamond," the miners said.
