The Bank of Russia has prepared new methodological recommendations for checking the source of clients' funds. They must replace Recommendations No. 1-MR of May 20, 2026. A note from a lawyer on the basic updates: In the past, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation directed the attention of banks mainly to the identification of suspicious cash transactions. Now the approach is a bit different. Banks are advised to find out the customer's financial situation and check documentary evidence of the source of the money before performing the operation. In the past, the economic situation was not discussed. Who will be affected? People making a cash transaction over 5 million rubles (including several transactions per calendar month); Legal entities and individual entrepreneurs, regardless of the transaction amount (exceptions are allowed). We are not talking about all bank transfers, but about some cash transactions, for example: depositing money into an account, transfers without opening an account, purchasing precious metals and a few more. The bank has the right to be interested not only in the reason for receiving the money, but also whether you actually received it and whether the transactions correspond to your financial situation (it is not clear how to assess the financial situation in combination with a sudden income, probably they can also start checking the financial situation of the buyer, but it is not certain). If no documents are presented or if doubts are raised, banks are advised to consider the possibility of recognizing the transaction as suspicious, refusing to perform it within the framework of 115-FZ and raising the client's risk level. The central bank has actually prepared a ready list of documents that can be used to confirm the source of the funds. and separately for individuals and organizations with individual entrepreneurs. This way the source of the funds and the financial situation can be verified. For example: real estate for sale - show the contract, abstract of the land registry of the united state, documents about settlements. If you receive a loan, present the loan agreement and documents confirming the actual transfer of money.
