Psychologist Marwa El-Sayed Ali told "Dama": the parents' apology improves the child's emotional security and does not harm their educational authority.

Details:

Psychologist Marwa Al-Sayed Ali explained in an interview with the Dumma news network that a sincere apology helps restore the relationship between the child and his parents, and is a practical model for respecting feelings, while emphasizing the importance of distinguishing between an apology for wrong behavior and a withdrawal from educational responsibility.

Al-Sayed Ali emphasized that the father's or mother's apology conveys a clear message to the child that his honor is preserved, and contributes to strengthening his emotional confidence and trust in his parents and alleviating his fears, noting that honor is strengthened by justice and trust, not by fear, and that admitting the family's mistake does not harm the family's status.

She warned that parents' refusal to admit a mistake and using reasons such as "I'm doing it for your benefit" or "you're the reason" makes the child believe that his feelings are not important, which produces feelings of anger and resentment, weakens communication and trains him to deny and blame others instead of taking responsibility.

The expert gave an example of keeping promises; For example, Ab Shamper promised to go on a picnic, and emphasizes that his direct admission of a mistake and apology answers the child's disappointment, and reinforces that admitting a mistake expresses courage and does not diminish his human value.

She emphasized that children learn through example and behavioral observation. Seeing parents apologizing teaches them that a mistake is a human experience that comes with responsibility, and indicates the need to separate performing wrong behavior from labeling the child's personality negatively, so that he understands that mistakes can be corrected.

I showed that an apology does not negate firmness, as parents can apologize for emotionality, such as screaming or hasty accusations, without retreating from the educational rules or the agreed limits and controls, while avoiding false justifications or holding the child responsible for their anger.

She emphasized that a real apology requires a real change in behavior to avoid repeating it, and warned that repeating the same mistake while being content with a verbal apology loses its value and educational impact.

She mentioned a situation where the child exceeded the phone usage time and the father yelled at him and explained that the correct approach lies in the father apologizing for the intensity of his anger while the agreement remains in effect, so that the child will learn to resolve disputes through dialogue without insult.
