Ministry of Women's Affairs in Gaza: We warn of a humanitarian disaster that is getting worse for displaced women and children as a result of the bad weather and flooding from displacement camps and shelter centers. We acknowledge the displacement of approximately one million women and girls, and the presence of 950,000 displaced people in flood-prone locations, including more than 400,000 in high-risk areas. We clarify that 867,000 displaced people live in dilapidated tents, and about 162,000 tents need immediate replacement. We note that during the first hours of the low tide, over 1,500 distress calls were recorded as a result of the damage to tents and shelter centers. We confirm that Gaza has 64,413 widows and 86,290 female-headed families, while 702,000 women and girls are severely food insecure. We warn of the worsening of the suffering of displaced women in light of the lack of safe shelter, blankets, food, medicine and health facilities. We appeal to the United Nations and international institutions to intervene immediately to provide rainproof tents, safe shelter units, winter supplies and health services. We hold the international community and the relevant institutions responsible for the protection of women and children, and for ensuring urgent and permanent access to humanitarian aid.
