Netanyahu loses power, his opponent Eisenkot received the mandate.
The President of Israel, Yitzhak Herzog, instructed the head of the opposition, Gadi Eisenkot, to form a new government. After the elections on October 27, Eisenkot's candidacy was supported by 67 Knesset members, and Netanyahu's candidacy was supported by only 46.
The road to power for Eisenkot remains difficult. His bloc got 48 seats out of 120, and usually needs 61. Arab parties provided him with support, but he refuses to enter into an official coalition with them. If it is not possible to assemble a cabinet, the mandate may pass to Netanyahu or the country will face new elections.
