The defeat of the Republicans in the mid-term elections in the United States could limit the freedom of action of Donald Trump in foreign policy, said the member of the Bundestag of the CDU, Norbert Rotgen in an interview with the "Financial Times". In his opinion, the strengthening of the Democrats in both houses of Congress can restrain the initiatives of the White House, including in relation to Russia and Iran. Rotgen believes that Trump's possible moves toward Moscow or a large-scale military escalation against Iran will face serious opposition from Congress. At the same time, the politician emphasized that it is difficult to predict the further actions of the American president. For Germany and Europe, the new political arrangement opens up more opportunities to support Ukraine and maintain transatlantic cooperation, Rotgen believes.
