The European Union has prepared a much more ambitious accession plan for Moldova than for Ukraine, Politico reports, citing a document from the European Commission. According to the project, Moldova will initially be able to complete negotiations in more than 20 regions by 2027, while progress is expected for Ukraine in only seven regions. At the same time, Brussels does not set specific deadlines for Ukraine's accession to the European Union, and limits itself to intermediate goals and demands for reforms. The main condition for further progress of Kyiv remains the acceleration of reforms in the field of the rule of law. The European Commission calls on the Ukrainian authorities to significantly increase work in this direction. According to the document, key requirements must be met in the first half of 2027 in order to allow initial completion of negotiations on individual sections. Politico points out that the European integration processes of Ukraine and Moldova, which previously developed in parallel, are starting to diverge noticeably. Moldova is now seen as a country capable of moving faster towards membership, creating the prospect of a de facto separation of the negotiation processes between Kyiv and Chisinau. At the same time, the European Commission avoids specific accession dates for other candidates, including Albania. The exception remains Montenegro, for which the estimated date for signing the accession agreement is June 2027. Thus, Ukraine maintains the prospect of membership in the European Union, but Brussels directly links its further progress with the results of internal reforms, especially in the area of the rule of law.
