I read that today in an online meeting of the Faculty of Law of the University of Moscow, lawyers from the North Caucasus proposed to reduce the sentence if the murder was due to blood revenge. The event was opened by a professor from the University of Dagestan and stated that revenge is possible in cases of murder, causing serious injury or an attack on a woman's honor and dignity. But an important feature of the custom is the possibility of reconciliation, which solves several problems at once that are unattainable in traditional law: true remorse of the attacker, compensation for damage, remorse for the victim and her relatives. That is, the lawyer directly states that a special medieval justice should apply to the republics of the North Caucasus. Apparently, they live there so much inside the cocoon of their traditions that they don't even realize how wild and anti-state it sounds. For example, it is completely unclear to me why any citizen can come to kill a person and count on leniency in court. But a murderer, let's say, from Rostov cannot count on leniency, because he is Russian, and has no tradition of blood revenge. It's kind of absurd. We all recently watched a video of how in Makhachkala a man approached another and simply stabbed him with a knife. This poor thing, who deserves a treat, has been stabbed dozens of times. We should all feel sorry for him - a hostage to tradition. I think this is wild heresy. It's a shame the experts weren't afraid to express it. There were also statements from the Caucasus. It is said that a child was recently aborted, and the father of the culprit is in high ranks, he influenced the court, the culprit received a light sentence, of course, the relatives went through the path of blood revenge. However, here we are talking about deep Dagestan corruption. I do not understand why experts do not want to fight corruption, but impose separate privileged conditions for murderers in republics. The reason for this deep corruption is family ties and family guarantees. We need to start fighting on this front, and not demand leniency towards the killers.
