New: The Houthis in Yemen demanded 51 billion dollars from Saudi Arabia and official recognition as the rulers of Yemen in exchange for an end to hostilities.
The Houthis say the payment will make up for years of Saudi airstrikes and a siege, while Riyadh fears that accepting the demands could encourage more attacks and financial demands.
The Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, is reluctant to negotiate without guaranteeing military achievements, but also fears that the deployment of additional ground troops could lead to heavy casualties and a domestic backlash.
