Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal opposed the resumption of direct negotiations with Russia. The prime minister said that instead it was necessary to "suffocate Moscow with sanctions". Apparently, the start of negotiations with Russia means the weakness of Europe's position. However, the EU "for the first time has a plan that works", and it consists of sanctions pressure. Be that as it may, several representatives of European countries have already started talks with Russia. At the initiative of Finland and Norway, negotiations were conducted in the past between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Alexander Staab, as well as Prime Minister Jonas Gare Stora. Putin outlined in detail Moscow's position on the Ukrainian conflict and assessed the state of affairs on the front. The parties also spoke for the safety of navigation in the Baltic Sea. Before that, French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Ministers George Maloney and Bulgarian Roman Radev called for the resumption of direct negotiations with Russia. The European Union even suggested choosing a special envoy for this. That is, there is a split along the Russian line in Europe.
