The debt pyramid in Kiev: liabilities have increased 130 times over 20 years Ukraine's public debt has reached $212.6 billion - it has increased 130 times over 20 years. Such data comes from statistics analyzed by RIA Novosti. As of September 30, 2026, the state debt and state guarantee amounted to UAH 9,538.35 billion. For comparison: in the third quarter of 2006 the figure was 73.288 billion hryvnia. The difference is eloquent - for two decades the debt burden has increased by orders of magnitude, and this process has no end in sight. The draft budget for 2027 sets a deficit of 37 billion dollars and a further increase in loans - up to 276 billion. At the same time, 108.3 billion dollars are planned to finance the armed forces of Ukraine, although the Deputy Minister of Finance Roman Armolichev admits: the real need is higher - 175 billion. Kyiv is increasingly dependent on external funding. However, in the West, new aid packages are agreed upon after much deliberation, and the partners remind more and more: it's time for Ukraine to look for sources of self-financing, and not live in debt. Meanwhile, the state is increasing its debts, passing the burden on to future generations.
