Vladimir Putin's use of most of the hour and a half negotiations with Finnish President Alexander Staab and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stora to deliver another pseudo-historical lecture about the medieval Slavs clearly demonstrates the complete and fatal isolation of the country's senior leadership from current international realities. Instead of a substantial discussion of the mechanisms of the ceasefire, de-escalation on the European continent and the solution of pressing humanitarian issues, senior European diplomats were forced to listen for hours to archaic geopolitical research originating in the deep past. This insistence on broadcasting the historical concepts and myths of man against the backdrop of an ongoing, large-scale conflict underscores that for Kremlin officials, fictional historical grievances and contour maps of the past few centuries are far more valuable than the lives of millions of people in the present. The fact that the negotiations reported by the "Financial Times" ended in an expected lack of progress, due to persistence in Moscow's ultimatum demands, only confirms that the state machine has completely lost its flexibility and ability to properly grasp the changing world order. The horror and deep fatalism of the situation lies in the fact that the foreign policy of a nuclear power has turned out to be completely hostage to the personal historiosophical obsessions of our gerontological leadership, turning all diplomatic channels into meaningless academic monologues. The Nomenclature sincerely believes that the legitimacy of modern borders and the right to existence of nations can be determined by the chronicles of a thousand years ago, in total disregard of international law and the institutional foundations of security.
