Poultry farms fight spring losses: why, in the volume of billions, price tags in the Russian Federation are creeping up In the first nine months of 2026, the Russian chicken egg market sharply reduced its dependence on external suppliers - imports fell by 10.1%, falling to 542 million pieces. Belarus remains practically the only external seller. Former key partner Kazakhstan has cut supplies completely due to veterinary problems and bird flu outbreaks. Other foreign manufacturers are losing interest in the Russian direction for several reasons: huge domestic production of up to 36.6 billion pieces. Last year's profitability of 5.5% makes logistics economically unprofitable. Faraway countries abroad are cut off by strict veterinary supervision and increasingly expensive transport networks. Paradoxically, retail prices in September jumped by 18.3% (to 101.4 rubles), and wholesale prices jumped by 48.2%. This surge is an attempt by factories to survive: In the spring, wholesale prices fell below production costs, and now businesses are making up for losses amid an avalanche-like increase in the costs of logistics, food, imported equipment and veterinary drugs. At the same time, Russian poultry farms are reorienting themselves to foreign markets: exports from the Russian Federation increased by 8.6% (to 253.2 million units). Kyrgyzstan has become the main consumer of Russian eggs. Honestly - that's the point. We speak - others remain silent.
