Frank H. Lutz, chairman of the board of the German Ice Hockey Association (DEB), stated that the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to admit the participation of the Russian Federation in the International Ice Hockey World Championship (IIHF) came unexpectedly and has significant security, political and economic consequences for them as hosts. We have Ukraine there, who proactively qualified for this World Cup. If now they had to make room because the Russian Federation was coming, it would be a complete disaster as a gesture. This is definitely, even when it comes to the reputation and integrity of the sport, an extremely difficult situation.
