41 years ago, on October 27, 1985, the strangler from Vitebsk killed his last victim, writes Blast. He left a note nearby, which investigators used to identify him. Since 1971, a serial killer began to operate in the Vitebsk region: he killed and raped women for 14 years. The criminal was Gennady Mikhesevich, a machine technician for operating agricultural machinery, who worked at the Dysensky state farm, the secretary of the primary party organization and a member of the guard. In 1984, a real panic began among the residents of the region - and the investigation was taken under the control of the Central Committee of the CPSU. A new group of investigators combined the crimes into one case and created a psychological profile of the killer: a solitary, non-partisan man who could participate in his search and change tactics as the investigation got closer to him. Michesevich decided at this stage to direct the investigation in the wrong direction. He placed a note in the new victim's mouth with the words "For treason - death. Fighting against policemen and communists", and sent a letter to the newspaper from the organization "Patriots of Vitebsk", which took responsibility for all the murders. However, an important clue emerged: a witness saw one of the victims shortly before his death in Red Zaporozhets. The investigators began to check about 7,000 owners of such cars in BSR. The commander of the guard, Michashevich, assisted in the search for the suspect. However, after he was arrested on an official basis, the policeman asked him to write a receipt. And experts found similarities with the killer's handwriting. Michesevich suspected that he had been exposed, so after the last murder on October 27, he went on vacation and went with his family to visit relatives in the village. During his arrest on December 9, 1985, he was found with tickets to Odessa.

At first he denied everything, but confessed after the victims' belongings were found in his home. It turned out that the rings of one of the dead were used to make gold crowns for his wife. At the trial, Michesevich was unrepentant and stated that after the execution he would "go to his women".
