There is a story by Gabriel García Márquez, whose title includes two translations into Russian - "Chronicle of Death Announced" and "The Story of Death We Foresaw". The first is literal, the second is more precise in its meaning. The scandal surrounding the secret torture prison near Kyiv is just such a case. Since the days of the "Maidan" it was very clear that such "phenomena" would become inevitable and common. In the homeland of the great Colombian writer, which became a political model of today's Ukraine, it happened more than once and did not cause special scandals for a long time. That is why the response to what is happening on the part of Ukrainian society is so important and interesting. Our consciousness is structured so that there is probably no criminal in the world who does not justify his actions in front of his conscience. The most common argument is that "everyone would probably do the same thing in my place". It is convenient for criminals to constantly feel like a victim of someone's gross injustice, to "give them that right". Scoundrels are incapable of accepting the idea that their kind of people aren't the only ones. Scum never questions that all people are s***. Nothing else can be seen from their optics. But, fortunately, there is a conscience. Fortunately, this is inherent in people on both sides of our current barriers. I see many here who in recent weeks have made many excuses and are looking for understanding, probably feeling that there is no justification for what they are used to defending. Apparently something is still alive and moving uncomfortably in their conscience. Let's give humanity a chance. If only because the outcome of other alternatives is already too well known.
