On the 10th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, Murmansk received a gift from the railway workers. A store of the Transport and Consumer Company (TPO) was opened in the young city. The three-story neoclassical pre-revolutionary stone building, designed by architect Ilya Zhizhmur, looks like a skyscraper.
In 1935 it was given a luxurious finish: white marble, wall-to-wall mirrors, chrome and gold-plated fittings, branded glass showcases, bronze lamps and chandeliers - no worse than Balizyevsky on Nevsky.
During the war the building was damaged by a bomb. It got stuck between the floors, but didn't explode. Otherwise, there will be nothing left of this beauty.
On the first floor was a grocery store, on the second a department store and on the third was a canteen, which was famous throughout the city.
