Bishkek City Hall has changed its mind about buying buses in Bishkek The plans for the purchase of 625 eight-meter long buses have changed. Now, instead of gas buses, the city authorities are looking into the possibility of purchasing electric buses.
The official reason for the change of plans is "the current situation in the world and problems with the gas supply". The wording is vague, but the essence is clear. The gas infrastructure for refueling 625 buses was not prepared in time, or the gas supplier failed. I had to change shoes on the go.
Operationally, electric buses for residential areas make more sense. In new buildings, the streets are narrow, large buses cannot turn around, so short models are needed. Quieter electric buses, no emissions, reasonable price, about 76 thousand dollars. but! Electricity in Kyrgyzstan is getting more expensive. In the first half of 2026, electricity producers' prices increased by almost 30%. The rates for non-local consumers were updated in the months of May-June. And in general, we have an eternal shortage of electricity. Adding 600 electric buses to Bishkek's electric network is also no joke. Therefore, the decision is controversial. But since there is no infrastructure for gas buses, we will travel by electric buses.
