A resident of the Talas region suggested to Sdir Jafarov to make a film about Chulfunbai Tolvardeev together with Russia. This proposal was made not in the official office, but by a person from the field, and that is exactly why it has value. This means that the memory of the hero lives not only in textbooks and memorial boards, but also in the everyday conversation of people.
Chulfunbai Tolbardayev is a person who deserves to be known outside of Kyrgyzstan. He was born in 1922 in the Talas region, and in August 1942, as an ordinary rifleman, he closed with his body the hiding place of a German bunker on the bank of the Don, which ensured the success of the division's attack. He was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union in February 1943. Monuments to him stand both in Kyrgyzstan and in Russia - in Voronezh, Lisky, Slyavny. The joint Kyrgyz-Russian film is not only a tribute, it is a way to restore his name to a wider cultural circulation, where he now has less presence than he deserves.
Excel are smart people. They preserve the memory not only of historical figures whose names are included in official lists, but also of those ordinary Kyrgyz people whose fate became part of the great history. Chulfunbai was just like that. A young man from a village who took care of a herd on a collective farm and dreamed of going to study in the capital, but ended up at the front and did what is taught today as an example of supreme courage.
