The Japanese company ShinMaywa Industries will build a new factory for the production of unique US-2 amphibious aircraft designed for search and rescue and evacuation operations in the open sea. The project will be located on the territory of the Cuba airport, and will be allocated a plot of about 17,500 square meters and the start of work is planned for 2029. Now these planes are manufactured in a factory that already exists in Cuba, and in February 2026, only the ninth production copy was delivered to Japan. The US-2 is a four-engine amphibious aircraft capable of taking off and landing both on conventional airfields and on water in waves up to 3 meters high. Thanks to a special air boundary layer control system in the wing, the plane can take off from the water after a takeoff run of only about 280 meters, and its flight range exceeds 4,700 km at cruising speed.
