War zone: For the first time in decades, the US Air Force arranged F-16s on combat patrols on the remote island of Shemya in the Altai archipelago, about 800 km from Russian Katka. Earlier, during the Cold War, the F-4 and F-15 of the United States were required here, but the regular presence of fighters ceased in the early 1990s. The deployment also involved additional F-35As and F-16s from Eilson Air Force Base in Alaska, while northern targets covered the Canadian F-35As along with E-3 Sentry AWACS and tank aircraft. Dana's A/FPS-108 Cobra radar, designed to detect and track ballistic missiles, makes the base a potential source of interest for China and Russia. @igal levin.
